The chase and pressure for more can be soul destroying.

The more of everything, is not always fulfilling;

Unless you appreciate everything and everyone.

So give love, give what you can and make a difference to others.

Thank you Wayne Dyer for all your teachings 🙂

Appreciation Day – North Rand Region

Not too long ago, when I still worked at Nedbank. The North rand region, pushed me into action.

Every morning when I would step into our offices, long sad faces and droopy shoulders, would be my welcome to the day. It felt like a kick to the stomach and I had a burning urge to turn the low energy around. At first I tried to just ignore it, I had many HR reports due and meetings to attend and knew that time was of the essence. But when I got to the coffee area and saw all the long faces…I just had to…

So I grabbed a couple of sticky note-pads and I rushed off to find Liezell and my HR Manager, TK. “Today”, I told them is “Appreciation day, let’s go and announce it on the floor and get some energy and smiles going.”

We tackled the teams in groups, and told them that each of them had to write a note of appreciation to a team-mate or friend or manager. Critical was that the note had to show the name of the person and what he or she was being appreciated for. Who ever received the most appreciations would get a reward.

Well I must admit, initially this announcement was greeted with skepticism. “Is there really a day like this?” some wanted to know. “Nope”, I said, “Its made up but imagine if you worked in a place where everyone appreciated what you did. Imagine appreciating your loved ones at home. Image the world we could be living in.” Well in no time there was energy and smiles on the floor.

I think the biggest reward is in being appreciated and showing appreciation. A burst of positive energy also shifts, how you tackle your work, I believe.

Sadly I got stuck in my reports and meetings and was only able to get back to the floor later the evening when most people had left for the day. I saw appreciation notes all over the place and it was so heart-warming to see. I was pleased to discover that I received a couple of appreciation notes myself. For the next couple of days it was such a pleasure walking into the office, there were smiles for miles.

Appreciation is sometimes just the boost you need – for a more productive and meaningful life 🙂

Keep appreciating those close to you everyone.

With love and light

Do you have a Liezell Brits?

If you do not have a Liezell you will never know the great heights that your ideas could take. You will also never know how the impossible could happen in the shortest possible time.

Liezell how fortunate I was to work with you! Thank you for always being willing to help and for your amazing attitude that was always like a fresh breath of air – which I gulped up 🙂 .

What always amazed me about you, Liezell:

  • Your willingness to help even though it was not in your job description or in your reporting line.
  • Whenever I went to you with one of my crazy ideas – you would just laugh! You would suggest improvements to the ideas (which always made it better) and the best part – you always thought these ideas could fly 🙂  (From HR puzzles to vision boards; the talent extravaganza & more).
  • You helped my team and me to implement these crazy ideas with ease & great success.
  • Your work ethic and output – simply extraordinary.
  • I love your heart and your dream of being a project co-coordinator/manager. With your completed studies and your willingness I know, this dream will be realized!
  • I’ve always said this to you, if I had to run a big company and I had only 1 person I could hire to make a difference – I know it will be you.
  • I hope sincerely – that one day you and I would work together in Cape Town (following in Noma’s steps to leave Jozi for the mother-city).

Thank you so much Liezell for the honor to work with you. Until we work together again, I hold you close in my heart.

With love & light
